CertainTeed Gutter Replacement: The Orange County Owner’s Guide

We install and replace CertainTeed gutter systems throughout Orange County, with most complete replacements running between $1,800 and $4,200 depending on linear footage, profile style, and whether fascia repair is needed before the new run goes up. Homeowners usually discover their CertainTeed gutters are failing after a heavy rain, when water spills over the front lip instead of channeling to the downspout, or when a section pulls loose from the fascia board and hangs at an angle. If you’re seeing either of those, the gutter itself or its hanger system has reached the end of its service life, and we can replace the damaged run, not just patch it.

Most Orange County homes we inspect with CertainTeed gutters fall into two camps: the original install is holding up well after 15 to 20 years, or a specific section has failed early because of a hanger spacing issue or a seam that opened up. The good news is that CertainTeed’s gutter profiles are widely available, and matching an existing run is straightforward once we take measurements on site.

Which CertainTeed Models This Applies To

CertainTeed manufactures aluminum and vinyl gutter systems under several product lines, including the CertainTeed 5″ K-style profile and the larger 6″ half-round profile found on some custom Orange County homes. The most common profile we replace is the 5″ K-style aluminum run, which CertainTeed sells in both a standard residential gauge and a heavier commercial gauge. If you have a CertainTeed gutter on your home, the profile is almost certainly one of these two, but the exact gauge matters when we match the replacement section.

Here’s the compatibility gotcha that catches homeowners off guard: CertainTeed’s 5″ K-style gutter is not dimensionally identical to the 5″ K-style from GAF or Owens Corning. The profile is close, but the lip geometry and hanger seat differ slightly. That means a replacement section from a different manufacturer will not seat properly in CertainTeed hangers, and vice versa. We order CertainTeed-matched profile stock or use their OEM hangers so the new run hangs square and drains without pooling at the seams.

To identify your gutter on the phone, look for a stamped manufacturer mark on the inside of the gutter or on the downspout. If it’s faded, a measurement helps: 5″ K-style means the top opening measures five inches across from front lip to back wall. We’ll confirm the profile, gauge, and color match during the estimate, so you don’t need to climb up there yourself.

For replacement stock, we install CertainTeed OEM gutter sections and also carry a quality aftermarket equivalent that matches the CertainTeed profile seat exactly. Both are aluminum, both come in the standard color range, and both carry the same one-year workmanship guarantee from us. The decision comes down to availability and color matching on older homes where the original CertainTeed color has faded.

Signs Your CertainTeed Gutter Replacement Is Failing

Gutters rarely fail all at once. They give you warning signs, and Orange County homeowners who catch them early spend less on the repair.

  • Water spilling over the front edge during rain. This usually means the gutter is pitched wrong, sagging at a hanger point, or clogged badly enough that water can’t reach the downspout. A gutter that overflows at the front is not doing its job, and the soil around your foundation is the first thing that pays for it.
  • Sections pulling away from the fascia board. CertainTeed gutters hang from hidden hangers that screw into the fascia. When those hangers loosen, the gutter tilts and water sits in low spots instead of draining. If you can see a gap between the back of the gutter and the fascia, the hangers have failed in that section.
  • Water stains or paint peeling on the fascia board behind the gutter. That stain means water has been running behind the gutter, not inside it. The cause is often a missing or failed drip edge, which lets water wick back against the fascia instead of dropping into the gutter trough. Replacing the gutter without fixing the drip edge just repeats the problem.
  • Seam separation at the end caps or miter joints. CertainTeed gutters are joined at corners and end caps with sealant. After a decade of Southern California sun, that sealant hardens and pulls free. A separated seam drips, and the drip rots the fascia behind it over time.
  • Rust spots or pinholes in the trough. Aluminum gutters don’t rust, but the steel screws in some certainteed hanger systems do, and the rust stains the gutter from the inside. Pinholes can also form where debris sits wet against the metal for years. Either way, patching aluminum is a temporary fix; section replacement is the honest one.

If you’re seeing one of these symptoms, the fix is often a partial run replacement rather than a full gutter re-do. We’ll tell you which one you need after we look at it, and we’ll put that on paper before any work starts.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Orange County, a CertainTeed gutter replacement runs from $1,800 to $4,200 for a typical single-story home with 120 to 200 linear feet of gutter. A partial replacement of one damaged 30-foot run lands between $450 and $850, including removal of the old section, new hangers spaced to code, and the replacement profile matched to your existing CertainTeed system.

Here’s what drives the range:

  • Linear footage. Gutters are priced per foot, and Orange County homes range from compact 1,100-square-foot ranches in Costa Mesa to 4,000-square-foot estates in Yorba Linda. More footage, more material, more labor.
  • Profile and gauge. The 6″ half-round profile carries a higher material cost than the 5″ K-style, and the heavier commercial gauge adds about 15 to 20 percent.
  • Fascia condition. If the fascia board behind the gutter is rotted, it has to be replaced before the new gutter goes up. That’s a carpentry cost, not a gutter cost, and it’s the single biggest driver of price differences on otherwise similar homes.
  • Access. Second-story gutters on a two-story Anaheim Hills home require ladder and safety setup beyond a single-story ranch. It’s not dramatic, but it’s real labor.

What’s included in our price: removal and disposal of the old gutter run, new hangers, the replacement profile matched to your CertainTeed system, downspout reconnection, and a written one-year guarantee on the work. The price goes on paper before any work begins, and it does not move at the door. That’s The Garrison Standard, and we’ve never made an exception to it.

DIY or Call Us?

Gutter replacement is one of the few roofing-adjacent jobs where a careful homeowner can do the work themselves, provided it’s a single-story home and the existing hanger spacing is sound. You can safely clean out a clogged CertainTeed gutter, tighten a loose hanger screw, and re-seal an end cap with a tube of gutter sealant from any hardware store. Those are maintenance items, and doing them yourself is reasonable.

Where DIY goes wrong is replacing a full run on a second story, matching a color on a faded original install, or repairing a gutter that pulled loose because the fascia behind it has rotted. That last one is the one we see most often: a homeowner re-hangs a gutter on soft wood, and the first good rain pulls it down again. Ladder work at roofline height is also where most home gutter injuries happen. If the work requires anything beyond a stepladder, call us at (559) 258-5703 and we’ll put an estimate in your hands. The estimate is free, and the price on it is the price you pay.
